Where Can I Set My Tank?

  1. 2001 GAL.w.c. and OVER – This tank must be placed a minimum of 50′ from the nearest line of an adjoining property which may be built upon, and a minimum of 50′ from the house.
  2. 501-2000 GAL.w.c. – This tank must be placed a minimum of 25′ from the nearest line of an adjoining property which may be built upon, and a minimum of 25′ from the house.
  3. 125-500 GAL.w.c. – This tank must be placed a minimum of 10′ from the nearest line of an adjoining property which may be built upon, and a minimum of 10′ from the house.
  4. Under 125 GAL.w.c. – This tank must be a minimum of 5′ from a crawl space, 5′ from an electric meter, 10′ from an intake to direct vent appliance, 10′ from a central A/C compressor or window air conditioner (source of ignition).

NOTE 1: Regardless of its size, any ASME tank filled on-site must be located so that the filling connection and fixed liquid level gauge are at least 10 feet away from any external source of ignition (i.e. open flame, window A/C, or intake to a mechanical ventilation system.

NOTE 2: For a single container of 1,200 w.c. or less, this distance may be reduced to not less than 10 feet provided that the container is at least 25 feet from any other LP-gas container of more than 125 gallons w.c.

NOTE 3: 5 foot minimum between relief valve discharge and external source of ignition (air conditioner), direct vent, or intake to a mechanical ventilation system.

NOTE 4: If the DOT cylinder is filled on-site from a bulk truck, the filling connection and vent valve must be at least 10 feet from any external source of ignition, direct vent, or intake to a mechanical ventilation system.
